Baptist Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas is recruiting a part-time, night-shift Security Officer (Unarmed) to help maintain a safe and secure environment across a major multi-hospital health system with more than 120 years of community presence. This role is central to daily campus operations — patrolling facilities, managing access control, supporting emergency response, and delivering front-line customer service to patients, staff, physicians, and visitors. The position is part of a large, mission-driven system that includes six full-service hospitals, a specialized children's hospital, a comprehensive cancer care network, imaging centers, and ambulatory services across San Antonio.

Practice Highlights

  • Part-time, night-shift schedule at Baptist Medical Center — a flagship campus within a six-hospital system serving the greater San Antonio region
  • Unarmed security role; Kevlar vest required and issued as part of uniform
  • Foot and vehicle patrol of facility grounds to detect and deter unauthorized or illegal activity
  • Monitoring and securing designated entrances and exits; verifying credentials and directing authorized personnel and visitors
  • Immediate response to emergency and unusual situations including disturbances, disruptive individuals, fires, and medical emergencies; patient restraint performed in accordance with facility and corporate policy
  • Response to protective alarm signals and suspicious activity reports
  • Pedestrian and vehicle traffic control during high-volume periods and special events; enforcement of parking regulations
  • Safety escorts provided to employees, patients, and visitors as needed
  • Incident documentation prepared and submitted in accordance with corporate security policies and procedures
  • System campus includes a specialized children's hospital with dedicated pediatric emergency unit, comprehensive cancer care network, fitness and rehabilitation centers, imaging centers, and the Baptist School of Health Professions

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
  • Two to three years of experience in a security role; law enforcement or military background accepted
  • Level II Noncommissioned Security Officer license with the Texas Commission on Private Security — must be obtained within 60 days of hire
  • Texas Security Officer Commission Level III preferred
  • Active Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required at time of hire (ARC or AHA); AHA Healthcare Provider BLS specifically required within 60 days of hire
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) certification required within 60 days of employment or transfer into the department
  • Valid Texas driver's license required
  • Must pass pre-employment and annual background checks
  • Physical requirements include continuous exertion: stair climbing, extended standing and walking, and carrying individuals in emergency situations; annual physical may be required
  • Must be able to perform all duties while wearing personal protective equipment (masks, gowns, security-related gear)
  • Strong written and oral communication skills required, including report writing; effective interpersonal skills across all levels of staff and the public
