North Central Baptist Hospitals in San Antonio, Texas is recruiting an experienced Registered Nurse to serve as Shift Supervisor in its Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). This is a frontline leadership role embedded within the departmental leadership team, carrying direct clinical supervision responsibility across the full shift — patient flow, staffing coordination, and real-time clinical decision support for bedside staff. The position sits within Baptist Health System, a 120-plus-year regional health system operating six full-service hospitals, a dedicated children's hospital with a pediatric emergency unit, and a comprehensive cancer care network across San Antonio.

Practice Highlights

  • Shift-based clinical supervision of the NICU, with direct accountability for patient care coordination, assignments, and unit flow
  • Functions as unit patient flow coordinator — managing admissions, discharges, and transfers in real time
  • Coordinates next-shift staffing in collaboration with the Director, Clinical Manager, Coordinator, and/or House Officer
  • Serves as a clinical resource, leadership role model, and escalation point for bedside nursing staff throughout the shift
  • Provides supervisory input into staff performance evaluations and reviews
  • Part of a departmental leadership team within a system that includes six full-service hospitals, a specialized children's hospital with a dedicated pediatric emergency unit, a comprehensive cancer care network, imaging centers, fitness and rehabilitation centers, ambulatory services, and the Baptist School of Health Professions
  • System has more than 120 years of community care history in the San Antonio region

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required; Bachelor's or Master's degree in Nursing (or advanced degree in a related field) preferred
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in an equivalent NICU or comparable unit required; 4 years preferred
  • Active Texas State Registered Nurse license required
  • National Specialty Certification preferred
  • Active Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) required at hire (ARC or AHA); AHA Healthcare Provider BLS must be obtained within 60 days of hire
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) and S.T.A.B.L.E. required for NICU placement; ACLS, PALS, Fetal Monitoring, and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention may be required depending on department assignment — grace periods apply per applicable Staff RN job description
