About the Community

Lancaster is one of the oldest inland cities in the United States, blending deep colonial and Pennsylvania Dutch heritage with a vibrant, modern downtown — home to James Beard-nominated restaurants, a thriving First Friday arts walk, and Central Market, the oldest continuously operating farmers market in the country. With a metro population of roughly 550,000, the city offers the cultural amenities of a mid-sized urban center alongside red-brick historic charm, rolling Amish farmland, and a close-knit community feel. Lancaster sits at the geographic crossroads of Philadelphia, Baltimore, and New York, making it an exceptionally well-connected base for physicians who want proximity to major metros without the cost or pace of living in one.
