Practice Highlights
- Full-time, night-shift position reporting directly to the Nursing Director
- On-call requirement with a 30-minute response time to the hospital
- High-risk Labor & Delivery scope: OB triage, vaginal deliveries, and cesarean sections (scrub and circulating roles)
- Clinical responsibilities include fetal and maternal assessment, amniotic fluid status evaluation, vaginal bleeding management, cervical examination, Apgar scoring, meconium aspiration management, and fetal scalp electrode insertion with continuous fetal monitoring
- Epidural support: assists anesthesiologist with catheter placement and monitors maternal and fetal status throughout
- Emergency preparedness: recognizes and responds to maternal and fetal distress; assists with resuscitation as required
- Maintains sterile field for cesarean sections; ensures readiness of all emergency equipment including anesthesia and crash carts
- Collaborative care model with obstetricians, anesthesiologists, and pediatricians
- 123-bed acute care hospital with a Level II Special Care Nursery, robotic surgery, award-winning heart care, and advanced minimally invasive joint and spine surgery programs
- Training provided for scrub C-sections and postpartum/well-baby care for candidates without prior experience in those areas
- Age-specific care competencies required across neonatal (0–30 days), adolescent (12–17 years), and adult (18–70 years) populations
Qualifications
- Current California RN license required
- Minimum of one year of recent full-time high-risk Labor & Delivery experience within the last three years, including OB triage and circulating for vaginal and cesarean deliveries
- BSN preferred
- Current BLS certification (American Heart Association)
- Current NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification
- AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring certification required within one year of hire (prior completion accepted at hire)
- AWHONN Progressive Fetal Monitoring coursework recommended every two years
