Practice Highlights
- Integrated four-surgeon, three-PA cardiothoracic surgery team operating in a high-autonomy, collaborative model at a flagship Dallas hospital
- Full perioperative scope: pre- and post-operative assessments including comprehensive histories, physicals, and diagnostic interpretation for complex CT surgery patients
- OR first-assist role with hands-on procedural responsibilities including endovascular vein harvesting (EVH), chest tube removal, central line removal, and wound debridement
- Daily rounding with the surgical team across ICU, step-down, and surgical floor settings; independent management of individualized treatment plans covering medications, wound care, and complication prevention
- Responsibility for emergency response and specialist consultation across all inpatient care settings
- Active participation in quality improvement initiatives and multidisciplinary CT Surgery department meetings
- Patient and family education covering surgical procedures, post-operative care, medication regimens, and discharge planning
- Part of Methodist Medical Group, a multi-specialty physician and APP organization spanning seven hospitals and more than 90 ambulatory clinics across North Texas
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program
- Board Certification as a Physician Assistant (PANCC) required
- Current, unencumbered Texas PA license required
- BLS and ACLS certification required; DEA registration required
- Minimum 2–3 years of PA experience; prior cardiothoracic surgery, cardiology, or critical care experience strongly preferred
- At least 3 years of Endovascular Vein Harvesting (EVH) experience required
- Demonstrated critical thinking, procedural competency, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a high-acuity surgical environment
