About the Community
Detroit is a city in genuine resurgence — culturally rich, remarkably affordable, and far more dynamic than its national reputation suggests. Cost of living sits well below the national average, and housing options range from renovated Midtown lofts to stately homes in Grosse Pointe and the charming suburbs of Birmingham and Rochester Hills. The culinary scene is nationally competitive, anchored by James Beard-nominated restaurants in Corktown and the Eastern Market — the largest historic open-air market in the country — while all four major professional sports, the Detroit Institute of Arts, and a thriving live music culture rooted in the Motown legacy round out the lifestyle. Outdoor recreation is abundant year-round along the Detroit Riverwalk, Belle Isle Park, and the broader Great Lakes region, and Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport offers nonstop service to virtually every major U.S. hub and select international destinations.
