A growing Cardiothoracic Surgery program in Dallas, Texas is seeking an experienced Physician Assistant to join a high-autonomy, collaborative practice. The PA will work alongside four CT surgeons and three fellow APPs, delivering comprehensive adult cardiac care across the full continuum — from preoperative assessment and first-assisting in the OR through postoperative critical care and outpatient follow-up.

Practice Highlights
- Primarily supports one lead surgeon at the flagship Dallas hospital, backed by a strong APP team
- Balanced call schedule: 1:3 weekday and 1:4 weekend rotation
- Inpatient and outpatient role with exposure to ICU, step-down units, and surgical floors, as well as outpatient clinic follow-ups
- First-assist responsibilities in the OR, including Endovascular Vein Harvesting (EVH)
- Conducts comprehensive pre- and post-operative history and physical examinations
- Orders, interprets, and acts on diagnostic tests including labs, imaging, and ECGs
- Develops and manages individualized treatment plans covering medication management, wound care, and complication prevention
- Performs procedures within scope and privileging: chest tube removal, central line removal, wound debridement, and aspirations
- Participates in daily surgical rounds, presenting patient updates and treatment recommendations
- Manages acute and chronic conditions; consults specialists as needed and responds to medical emergencies
- Collaborates with CT surgeons, intensivists, cardiologists, pulmonologists, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals
- Provides patient and family education on diagnosis, surgical procedures, discharge instructions, and follow-up care
- Maintains accurate, timely EMR documentation in compliance with hospital and regulatory requirements
- Participates in quality improvement initiatives, evidence-based practice, and continuing education
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program
- Current, unencumbered Physician Assistant license in Texas
- Board Certification as a Physician Assistant (PANNS)
- BLS and ACLS certification required
- DEA registration required
- Minimum 2–3 years of PA experience; prior experience in cardiothoracic surgery, cardiology, critical care, or a related surgical specialty highly preferred
- At least 3 years of Endovascular Vein Harvesting (EVH) experience required
- Demonstrated experience with pre- and post-operative management of complex surgical patients
- Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and independent decision-making skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced clinical environment
