Practice Highlights
- Bedside screening of self-pay patients across hospital units, including Emergency Department environments and broad campus settings
- Identification of all potential payor sources: Medicaid, Medicare, auto insurance, Workers' Compensation, commercial insurance, private insurance, and third-party liability (TPL)
- Conducts structured patient and family interviews to complete Confidential Financial Statement forms and route accounts appropriately within the Patient Accounting system
- Assists patients through the full application process for any governmental or non-governmental benefit programs for which they may qualify
- Performs financial clearance functions including collections activity; prepares accounts for Financial Assistance review when patient cooperation is not obtained
- Follows up on EES-assigned accounts to ensure government program applications are processed through to eligibility determination
- Conducts field visits to patient homes for skip tracing and document assistance when required
- Communicates case screening determinations and outcomes to hospital case management, social services, and admissions staff via verbal and written channels
- Works across multiple facilities and hospital platforms simultaneously, coordinating with multiple supervisors and departments
- Hybrid work environment: direct patient contact at hospital bedside combined with office-based account documentation and follow-up
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Minimum 2 years of work experience in social services, hospital admitting, or a directly related patient access or financial counseling role
- Working familiarity with Federal, State, and County program rules and regulations governing patient financial assistance and government benefits
- Proficiency in PC systems including Windows, Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English; bilingual fluency in Spanish strongly preferred
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and accounts independently with strong attention to detail
- Ability to walk through hospital environments, visit patients at bedside, and travel for field visits as required
- Must meet all pre-employment vaccination and health screening requirements as applicable and permitted by law, which may include COVID-19 and influenza vaccinations
