Practice Highlights
- Bedside patient interviews conducted throughout the hospital, including Emergency Department and broad campus settings
- Screens self-pay patients for eligibility across a full spectrum of governmental programs (Federal, State, County) and non-governmental programs
- Identifies all potential payor sources including auto insurance, Workers' Compensation, commercial insurance, private insurance, and third-party liability (TPL) to route accounts appropriately within the Patient Accounting environment
- Obtains and completes Confidential Financial Statement forms; assists patients through the benefits application process end-to-end
- Performs financial clearance functions including collections; prepares accounts for Financial Assistance review when applicable
- Follows up on EES-assigned accounts to ensure government applications are processed through to eligibility determination
- Conducts field visits to patient homes for skip tracing and document assistance
- Communicates case screening determinations and outcomes to hospital case management, social services, and admissions staff via verbal and written channels
- Works across multiple facilities and hospital platforms simultaneously, requiring strong prioritization and multitasking skills
- Hybrid work environment: direct patient and staff contact within both hospital and office settings; some travel required
Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent required
- Minimum 2 years of work experience in Social Services, Hospital Admitting, or a directly related field
- Working familiarity with Federal, State, and County program rules and regulations governing patient financial assistance
- Proficiency in PC systems including Windows, Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English; Spanish-English bilingual fluency strongly preferred
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks efficiently, and maintain detailed documentation across multiple accounts and facilities
- Ability to walk throughout a hospital campus including Emergency Department environments and visit patients at bedside; ability to travel for field visits as required
