Practice Highlights

- Reports to and receives daily assignments from the centralized One Call Center / Transport Dispatcher
- Remains continuously available via SpectraLink phone system or designated communication device throughout shift
- Responsible for safe, timely, and efficient patient transfers and discharges between nursing units and departments
- Operates within a Level 1 Trauma Center and a campus that includes a comprehensive stroke program, cancer center, and Level 3 NICU — the only one in the Coachella Valley
- Part of the Desert Care Network, which spans three hospitals: Desert Regional Medical Center (Palm Springs), JFK Memorial Hospital (Indio), and Hi-Desert Medical Center (Joshua Tree)
- Responsible for cleaning and preparing gurneys, wheelchairs, and oxygen tanks following patient transfers or discharges
- Supports stocking and cleaning duties when not actively transporting patients
- Participates in training new employees, students, and volunteers in transport aide duties
- Adheres to "ticket to ride" completion protocols and reports any lengthy transport delays to the department and dispatcher
- Identifies, communicates, and routes malfunctioning or unsafe equipment to appropriate repair areas
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
- Strong communication skills — verbal, written, and phone etiquette
- Demonstrated ability to present in a positive, professional manner consistent with hospital service standards
- Ability to perform all duties within defined scope of practice and follow direction from dispatch and supervisory staff
