Practice Highlights
- Ambulatory physician practice setting within Baptist Medical Network, a multi-specialty system serving 12 counties across South Texas
- Direct clinical support role working under physician direction — vital signs, patient history, medication reconciliation, visual acuity assessment, and chief complaint documentation
- Administers oral medications; performs intramuscular, subcutaneous, and intradermal injections; and conducts venipunctures
- Performs both CLIA-Waived and non-CLIA-Waived laboratory testing
- Prepares equipment and assists physicians during medical treatments, exams, and procedures
- Coordinates specialist referrals, diagnostic testing appointments, and insurance pre-certification for ordered surgeries and tests
- Supports front-desk operations including phone coverage, appointment scheduling, patient check-out, and referral processing
- Maintains exam room cleanliness, instrument sterilization and storage, room stocking, and supply inventory in accordance with practice protocols
- Completes all clinical documentation in the patient medical record per practice charting policy
- Complies with PPE requirements for exposure to blood-borne pathogens, chemical disinfectants, radiation, and other hazardous materials
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- Medical Assistant diploma from an accredited program, OR three or more years of relevant healthcare work experience in lieu of a diploma, OR a current Medical Assistant certification
- Current CPR certification required
- Formal Medical Assistant certification preferred (CMA, RMA, or equivalent)
- Demonstrated competency in clinical MA duties including injections, venipuncture, and point-of-care lab testing
