About the Community
Carmel is the county seat of Putnam County, situated in the Hudson Valley approximately 60 miles north of Midtown Manhattan — close enough for a day trip to the city, far enough to enjoy a genuinely different pace of life. The region offers four-season outdoor recreation including hiking in Hudson Highlands State Park, boating on Lake Mahopac, and access to the Appalachian Trail, alongside well-regarded public schools, a low-density suburban character, and a cost of living meaningfully below that of the New York City metro core. For physicians who want proximity to a world-class city without living in it, Putnam County is a compelling base.
