About this role
At Houston Methodist, the Research Technician I position is responsible for assisting scientists in their laboratory investigations by performing glass washing and sterilization of laboratory glassware, supplies, and liquids. This position largely involves running glass washers and autoclave equipment as a part of our HMRI Glass Wash and Autoclave Core. Strong communication skills, attention to detail, adherence to Core processes and safety practices, and, ability to train scientists in the use of the equipment are all required. Ability to work both independently and as a part of the Core and Central Laboratory Operations Teams is vital.
Knowledge/training of HMRI Glass Wash and Autoclave Core equipment usage and procedures and basic lab safety will be provided and are part of the ongoing responsibilities of this position. Work site will include TMC Houston Methodist Research Institute facilities and the TMC3 Houston Methodist Research Institute laboratories (15 minute “walk” from TMC site).

- Performs bench chemistry, microbiology, molecular biology or other scientific techniques according to protocol.
- Accurately conducts microscope work and basic image analysis.

- Conducts the safe collection and handling of human/animal tissue, blood or other biological specimens which includes animal handling and may include basic animal husbandry.
