AdventHealth Shawnee Mission is hiring a full-time Laboratory Assistant I for its hospital laboratory in Shawnee Mission, Kansas.
### What you'll do
- Collect blood specimens via phlebotomy and skin puncture across all patient age groups.
- Receive, process, centrifuge, aliquot, and transport patient specimens to testing departments.
- Perform point-of-care testing including quality control, maintenance, troubleshooting, and result documentation.
- May perform cytopreparatory staining, accessioning of surgical cases, and setup of primary specimen cultures.
- Load preanalytical instruments and support clerical and receptionist functions within the lab.
- Follow all safety protocols including PPE use, Chemical Hygiene Plan compliance, and hazardous waste handling procedures.
### What we're looking for
- High school diploma or equivalent (required); technical/vocational school training preferred.
- Phlebotomy skills required; completion of a formal phlebotomy training program preferred.
- Phlebotomy Technician (PBT-ASCP) or Medical Lab Associate (MLA-ASCP) certification preferred.
- Ability to handle infectious biological specimens, caustics, and toxic chemicals safely.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications including Microsoft Office and electronic health record systems.
- Strong customer service skills and ability to communicate professionally with patients and clinical staff.
