About this role
UChicago Medicine AdventHealth is hiring a part-time Surgical Technician / First Assistant for the Orthopedic OR at its La Grange, Illinois facility.
### What you'll do
- Set up and maintain orthopedic operating suites using surgeon preference cards, updating cards as directed.
- Provide intraoperative support through tissue retraction, sponging, suction, and irrigation to maintain visualization of the operative site.
- Achieve hemostasis and assist with body-plane closures, wound dressing application, and drainage system placement.
- Handle instruments, supplies, and equipment throughout procedures while anticipating surgeon needs.
- Maintain strict aseptic technique, perform surgical counts with the circulator, and participate in the pre-incision time-out.
- Measure and pass medications, hemostatic agents, and irrigation solutions per safe-handling and labeling policies.
### What we're looking for
- Active Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA) certification required; Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) preferred.
- Current BLS/CPR certification required.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree preferred.
- 2+ years of relevant surgical technician or first-assistant experience preferred.
- Prior first-assistant experience in orthopedics strongly preferred.
- Working knowledge of asepsis, surgical anatomy, operative techniques, and regulatory/accreditation standards.
