About this role

AdventHealth South Orlando is hiring a Senior Inpatient Coding Specialist to review, analyze, and assign ICD-10 codes for complex inpatient encounters at its tertiary and quaternary care facility in Orlando, Florida. ### What you'll do - Review and interpret clinical documentation to assign accurate diagnostic and procedure codes in compliance with official coding guidelines, payer specifications, and regulatory requirements. - Evaluate DRG assignment accuracy and apply coding knowledge to support reimbursement integrity, mortality metrics, and publicly reported quality indicators. - Query physicians and allied health personnel to clarify discrepancies, capture additional diagnoses, complications, and comorbid conditions. - Verify admission source, discharge disposition, and operative physician data on the chart coding screen. - Maintain coding turnaround within two days of discharge and hospital coding days within three days. - Mentor junior coding staff and deliver coding and clinical education to elevate team-wide performance standards. ### What we're looking for - 5+ years of inpatient hospital coding experience, including cardiovascular surgery, neurosurgery, trauma, neonatology, bariatric surgery, and other tertiary-level services. - Active credential: RHIA, RHIT, or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) required. - Comprehensive knowledge of DRG assignment, Medicare reimbursement methodology, SOI/ROM, patient safety indicators, and value-based purchasing. - Coding education background including medical terminology, anatomy & physiology, and pathophysiology coursework. - Proficiency with encoder software and Microsoft Office; ability to work independently in a remote setting. - Strong critical thinking, prioritization, and physician communication skills. ### What's included - Hourly pay range: $23.91–$44.46 (approximately $49,733–$92,477 annualized). - Medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance effective Day One. - Paid time off from Day One; 4 weeks of 100% paid parental leave. - 403(b) retirement plan. - Career development resources and whole-person well-being support. ### About the practice AdventHealth South Orlando, located at 601 E Rollins St, is a faith-based quaternary care facility within the AdventHealth system, one of the largest not-for-profit Protestant health systems in the United States.
