About this role
AdventHealth Shawnee Mission is hiring a part-time Laboratory Assistant I to support clinical laboratory operations at its hospital campus in Shawnee Mission, Kansas.
### What you'll do
- Collect blood specimens via phlebotomy and skin puncture across all patient age groups
- Receive, process, and transport patient specimens including centrifugation and aliquoting
- Perform cytopreparatory staining, accession surgical cases, and set up primary specimen cultures
- Load preanalytical instruments and deliver specimens to the appropriate testing departments
- Perform point-of-care testing with associated quality control, maintenance, and result documentation
- Clean and disinfect laboratory equipment, maintain inventory, and support departmental supply stocking
### What we're looking for
- High school diploma or equivalent (required); technical/vocational school background preferred
- Completion of a phlebotomy training program preferred
- Phlebotomy Technician certification (PBT-ASCP) preferred; Medical Lab Associate (MLA-ASCP) preferred
- Ability to handle infectious specimens, caustic chemicals, and hazardous waste safely and in compliance with Chemical Hygiene and Infection Control policies
- Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office and electronic health record applications
- Strong customer service and communication skills in English, written and verbal
