About this role

AdventHealth South Orlando is hiring a Senior Inpatient Coding Specialist to join its coding team at its facility in Orlando, Florida. ### What you'll do - Review, analyze, and interpret clinical documentation to assign accurate ICD-10 and procedure codes in compliance with official guidelines, payer specifications, and regulatory requirements. - Evaluate diagnostic and procedural code optimization while balancing reimbursement accuracy with regulatory compliance. - Query physicians and clinical staff to clarify discrepancies, additional diagnoses, complications, and co-morbid conditions. - Monitor coding turnaround, maintaining records within two days of discharge and hospital coding days within three days. - Mentor junior coding staff and deliver coding and clinical education to elevate team-wide proficiency. - Apply codes with an understanding of their impact on DRG assignment, mortality rates, clinical quality indicators, and value-based purchasing metrics. ### What we're looking for - Minimum 5 years of inpatient hospital coding experience, including cardiovascular surgery, neurosurgery, trauma, neonatology, bariatric surgery, and other tertiary-care services. - Active credential: RHIA, RHIT, or CCS (one required). - Comprehensive knowledge of Medicare reimbursement methodology, DRG assignment, risk adjustment, and publicly reported hospital data. - Familiarity with patient safety indicators, SOI/ROM, and value-based purchasing program requirements. - Proficiency with encoder software and Microsoft Office; ability to work independently in a remote setting. - High school diploma or equivalent required; coding certificate, diploma, or 2-year HIM program including medical terminology, anatomy, and pathophysiology required. ### What's included - Pay range: $49,732–$92,477 annually (based on $23.91–$44.46/hr × 2,080 hours). - Medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance effective from day one. - Paid time off from day one and four weeks of 100% paid parental leave. - 403(b) retirement plan. - Career development resources and whole-person well-being support. ### About the practice AdventHealth South Orlando is part of AdventHealth, a faith-based, not-for-profit health system with facilities across the United States.
