About this role
AdventHealth Polk is hiring a Medical Laboratory Scientist 1 for a 2nd-shift (12:30 PM–11 PM, Monday–Thursday) full-time role at its Columbus, NC facility.
### What you'll do
- Perform and complete laboratory tests and analytical procedures accurately per established standard operating procedures
- Conduct pre-analytical activities including equipment maintenance, function checks, specimen collection, and biological specimen processing
- Carry out post-analytical activities such as results reporting and technical support to clinical staff
- Maintain laboratory equipment and workspaces through routine cleaning and disinfection
- Participate in proficiency testing, performance improvement activities, and evaluation of new laboratory techniques
- Serve as a preceptor for new employees and students, and provide guidance to laboratory technicians and support staff
### What we're looking for
- Associate's degree in a laboratory science, biological/chemical science, or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution (or qualifying US military medical laboratory training)
- Technical proficiency in laboratory testing, procedures, and processes relevant to the assigned department
- Ability to work independently, adapt to shifting priorities, and direct workflow with minimal supervision
- Strong analytical, mathematical, critical thinking, and attention-to-detail skills
- Competency in operating laboratory computer systems for patient documentation and testing records
- Willingness to work flexible hours including potential overtime, weekends, and holidays

- Hourly pay range: $22.75–$42.31 (approximately $47,320–$88,005 annualized)
