About this role
AdventHealth South Orlando is hiring a full-time Mid-Level Inpatient Coding Specialist to support accurate clinical documentation and DRG assignment at its Orlando, Florida facility.
### What you'll do
- Apply ICD-10-CM/PCS, MS-DRG, Present on Admission, and patient status codes to inpatient encounters across multiple facilities
- Review, analyze, and interpret clinical documentation to ensure coding conventions and Medicare Prospective Payment System requirements are met
- Query physicians to clarify discrepancies, additional diagnoses, complications, and co-morbid conditions
- Evaluate and optimize DRG options in accordance with UHDDS rules, official coding guidelines, and regulatory agency requirements
- Verify CAC codes and confirm that diagnostic and procedure codes are supported by physician clinical documentation
- Communicate with physicians and allied health personnel to maintain comprehensive, accurate, and timely documentation
### What we're looking for
- Minimum 3 years of inpatient hospital coding experience, including cardiovascular surgery, neurosurgery, trauma, neonatology, and other tertiary-care services
- Active credential: RHIA, RHIT, CCS, or CPC (one required)
- Associate degree in Health Information Management or equivalent medical coding certification
- Thorough knowledge of Medicare reimbursement methodology, DRG assignment, and Official Coding Guidelines / Coding Clinic guidance
- Proficiency with encoder software and Microsoft Office; ability to work independently in a remote setting
- Strong critical thinking, medical terminology, anatomy, and pathophysiology knowledge

Rollins Street serves as a tertiary and quaternary care facility, handling complex cases including advanced cardiovascular procedures, organ transplantation, ECMO, and cutting-edge surgical innovations. The coding team operates remotely with a target of completing coding within two days of patient discharge.
