About this role
AdventHealth Winter Park is hiring a full-time Laboratory Assistant 1 for its hospital laboratory in Winter Park, Florida, working a Thursday–Sunday night-weekend schedule (8:00 PM–6:30 AM).
### What you'll do
- Receive, process, and transport patient specimens, including centrifugation and aliquoting across multiple sample types.
- Perform phlebotomy and skin puncture for blood specimen collection across all age groups.
- Conduct point-of-care testing with associated quality control, maintenance, troubleshooting, and result documentation.
- May perform cytopreparatory staining, accession surgical cases, and set up primary specimen cultures by inoculating petri dishes.
- Load preanalytical instruments or deliver specimens directly to the testing department.
- Maintain laboratory safety compliance, including PPE use, chemical hygiene, infection control, and hazardous waste transport.
### What we're looking for
- High school diploma or equivalent (required); technical/vocational school training preferred.
- Phlebotomy skills required; completion of a formal phlebotomy training program preferred.
- Phlebotomy Technician (PBT-ASCP) or Medical Lab Associate (MLA-ASCP) certification preferred.
- Ability to handle infectious biological specimens, caustics, and toxic chemicals safely.
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office and electronic health record navigation.
- Strong customer service and communication skills in English, both verbal and written.
