A Medical Laboratory Scientist II role at AdventHealth Heart of Florida serves the hospital laboratory in Davenport, Florida, on a full-time night/weekend shift.
### What you'll do
- Perform pre-analytical activities including specimen collection, processing, equipment maintenance, and inventory control
- Execute laboratory tests and analytical procedures accurately per established standard operating procedures
- Report results, provide technical support, and complete post-analytical documentation
- Participate in proficiency testing and performance improvement activities in compliance with federal, state, and accrediting-body regulations
- Precept and train new employees and students, offering guidance to technicians and support staff
- Evaluate new laboratory techniques and assist with data collection and special projects
### What we're looking for
- Bachelor's degree in chemical, biological, clinical, or medical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution (or qualifying equivalency per CLIA standards)
- 2+ years of clinical laboratory experience (preferred)
- Proficiency in laboratory techniques including specimen preparation, and preferably DNA/RNA extractions and molecular assays
- Ability to handle infectious biological specimens, caustic and toxic chemicals safely with appropriate PPE
- Strong critical thinking, attention to detail, and independent workflow management skills
- Additional state licensure or certification may be required depending on unit assignment
