About this role
A Consumer Access Specialist at AdventHealth Treaty Oaks ER supports patient registration, insurance verification, and financial counseling at the emergency department in Palm Coast, Florida.
### What you'll do
- Register patients for all services, ensuring accuracy and minimizing duplication of medical records
- Verify insurance eligibility and benefits, obtain pre-authorizations, and perform Medicare compliance reviews including issuing Advance Beneficiary Notices (ABNs)
- Create accurate estimates of patient financial responsibility, collect payments, and establish payment plans
- Coordinate with utilization management staff on pre-authorization issues and communicate logistics to patients
- Manage communication across clinical, ancillary, and consumer access departments to support the patient experience
- Perform cashiering functions including collections and cash reconciliation, and provide PBX switchboard coverage as needed
### What we're looking for
- High school diploma or equivalent (required)
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and electronic health record (EMR) systems
- Familiarity with insurance benefits, payer requirements, and hospital billing processes
- Knowledge of regulatory guidelines including CMS, EMTALA, and HIPAA
- Basic to intermediate medical terminology
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred; strong written and verbal communication skills required
