Galveston Island sits on the Texas Gulf Coast 50 miles south of Houston, offering 32 miles of beaches, a vibrant historic downtown with dining, arts, and entertainment, and a relaxed coastal atmosphere that contrasts sharply with the intensity of a major urban center. The island's proximity to Houston provides access to a world-class metropolitan area — including the Texas Medical Center, major airports, and a full range of cultural and educational amenities — while Galveston itself delivers an unhurried quality of life, strong recreational options, and a distinctive historic character that draws physicians who want both professional prestige and coastal living.
