Practice Highlights

  • Specialty-focused outpatient ophthalmology practice (Marietta Eye Clinic) — all billing and coding work is ophthalmology-specific
  • Coding function: ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS code assignment and sequencing for diagnoses, surgical procedures, and special therapies; claim scrubbing and edits; charge entry; electronic claim submission and rejection follow-up; co-managed surgery coordination and reporting
  • Posting function: Evaluation of explanation of payments (EOBs); accurate posting of collection receipts; 835 file management and deposit tracking; bank deposit reporting and balancing; timely application of payments and denials; bank and bank partner liaison duties
  • Claims resolution function: Daily research and correction of denials for assigned payers; aged trial balance and aging report review; documentation of all correspondence with patients, insurance carriers, and clients; patient payment receipt via phone and in-person; response to information requests within two business days
  • Benefits coordination function: Insurance verification and benefit coverage confirmation using the Clearwave system; prior authorization and notification management for elective, non-elective, urgent, and emergent outpatient services; timely completion of work lists within contractual guidelines

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; college degree preferred for posting-focused candidates
  • Healthcare experience preferred across all functions
  • Coding: CCS, CCS-P, or CPC certification (active or in process); 4+ years of ophthalmology-specific billing and coding experience
  • Posting: 4+ years of ophthalmology experience; experience with managed care contracts; payment posting experience preferred
  • Claims Resolution: CPC certification (active or in process); 2+ years of medical practice experience
  • Benefits Coordination: Minimum one year of experience in hospital admitting, registration, insurance, or managed care settings
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain strict patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA and departmental policies
