Practice Highlights
- PRN position on the Med-Surg nursing unit at a full-service acute care hospital serving East Texas for nearly 50 years
- Responsible for recording, transmitting, and filing written and verbal communications to and from nursing staff, physicians, and patients
- Transcribes physician orders and maintains current, orderly chart files
- Schedules and signs patients in and out for surgery, treatments, and diagnostic tests
- Manages unit supply ordering and storage; coordinates special orders for physicians, patients, and nurses
- Assembles patient charts for transfers and discharges; assists with patient care and quality assurance audits
- Serves as front-line point of contact — answers telephone and intercom, greets and directs visitors, relays messages
- Supports physicians in locating patient charts and connecting with the appropriate primary nurse
- Hospital service lines include obstetrics and gynecology, cardiology (cath lab and electrophysiology), cancer care, neuroscience (Brainlab technology, stroke treatment), and weight loss surgery
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Familiarity with medical terminology required
- Proficiency with computer systems required
- Previous experience as a Unit Secretary preferred
- No certifications required for this role
