Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Sunnyvale is recruiting a full-time, night-shift Step Down Registered Nurse to join its Cardiac Specialty Unit in Sunnyvale, TX. This community-based hospital punches well above its size class, offering a breadth of specialty services — including two free-standing Emergency Departments and an extensive outpatient footprint — that is uncommon for a facility of this scale. The role carries genuine clinical autonomy: you will lead the patient care team, coordinate comprehensive care plans, and function as a resource for less experienced colleagues, all within a collaborative, evidence-based practice environment.

Perks and Benefits

  • Full-time employment with a well-established regional health system
  • Night-shift schedule with consistent, predictable hours
  • Access to the full benefits package typical of a large acute care system (health, dental, and vision coverage)
  • E-Verify participating employer — candidates requiring work authorization are welcome to inquire
  • Supportive professional environment with opportunities to mentor and lead less experienced nursing staff

Practice Highlights

  • Dedicated Cardiac Specialty / Step Down Unit — focused acuity with a defined cardiac patient population
  • Independent nursing practice using the full nursing process: assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation
  • Oversight of the patient care team with direct accountability for safety, effectiveness, and patient rights standards
  • Collaborative, interdisciplinary care model — you will work alongside physicians, APPs, and allied health professionals to build and execute individualized care plans
  • Community-based hospital with urban-level specialty depth, including physical medicine, wound care, sleep center, and advanced imaging services
  • Two free-standing Emergency Departments extending the facility's reach across a broad regional catchment
  • Outpatient services serving Forney, Mesquite, Sunnyvale, Seagoville, and surrounding communities — strong referral base feeding the inpatient unit
  • Strong emphasis on evidence-based practice, infection prevention, and patient/family education
  • Accurate clinical documentation and protection of patient health information are core expectations of the role

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing required; Bachelor's or Master's degree in Nursing preferred
  • Current State of Texas Registered Nurse (RN) license required
  • Minimum two years of recent critical care or step-down experience required
  • Current AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
  • Current AHA Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required
  • CCRN certification preferred
  • Proficiency in English (verbal and written) required; additional language fluency is a plus
  • Basic computer competency required for clinical documentation and EMR use
