The position offers a competitive salary band, a potential signing bonus, and the flexibility of 100% remote work from anywhere in the United States.

Perks and Benefits

  • Salary range: $66,768 – $106,704 annually, dependent on location, qualifications, and experience
  • Signing bonus available for qualified new hires, subject to employment status
  • Discretionary 401(k) with up to 6% employer match
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance; disability, life, AD&D, and business travel insurance
  • Paid time off (vacation and sick leave) plus 10 paid holidays per year
  • Health savings accounts; healthcare and dependent flexible spending accounts

Practice Highlights

  • Day-to-day supervision of internal outpatient coding staff (OPCC), offshore coders, and outside vendor coders — including staffing, work assignments, time-off monitoring, and attendance reporting
  • Manages productivity and quality reporting to ensure coding quality standards are consistently met; develops and implements performance improvement plans as needed
  • Identifies and acts on bill hold reduction opportunities; monitors and drives down Days Not Finally Coded (DNFC) by mitigating downtime, decreasing holds, and ensuring timely coding turnaround
  • Collaborates with the corporate coding manager on revenue opportunities, discharge disposition reconciliation, and record integrity
  • Designs, schedules, and delivers training activities for coding staff as needs are identified; maintains and updates job descriptions, standards, and procedures for supervised areas
  • Leads full supervisory cycle: interviewing, hiring, onboarding, annual performance assessments, and disciplinary processes for all direct reports
  • Assists in coordinating internal and corporate audits and follow-up on findings; supports state reporting submission and file validation
  • Implements and maintains policies and procedures for consistent, compliant operation of coding areas in alignment with organizational goals and budget
  • Proficiency required in 3M software, including multiple groupers, and all applicable computer applications
  • Stays current with ICD-10-CM, CPT, OP NCCI/CCI edits, post-bill denials, reimbursement changes, and clinical database developments

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in Health Information Management required
  • Active CPC or CCS credential required; RHIA or RHIT required or strongly preferred — dual credentialing (RHIA/RHIT plus CPC/CCS) is the preferred profile
  • Minimum 5 years of outpatient coding experience, with demonstrated expertise in OP NCCI, CCI edits, and post-bill denials
  • Comprehensive working knowledge of ICD-10-CM and CPT coding classification systems
  • Strong analytical capability to prepare and interpret productivity, quality, and financial reports
  • Interpersonal skills sufficient to communicate effectively across all levels of hospital and corporate personnel, including physicians and external vendors
  • Above-average general office and computer proficiency, including 3M coding software and multiple groupers
