Practice Highlights
- Full-time, rotating schedule position within the dietary department
- Prepares food for cafeteria service, patient tray service, and other assigned department areas
- Operates as grill cook in the cafeteria as needed, in addition to general production cooking
- Follows standardized recipes for all menu items including salads and desserts
- Checks patient trays for temperature accuracy and content correctness prior to delivery
- Monitors food temperatures at multiple points throughout the day to ensure safety compliance
- Adheres to HACCP standards, Baptist Health System (BHS) safety and sanitation protocols, and all applicable local, state, and federal food service regulations
- Demonstrates proficiency across all kitchen equipment and applies proper sanitation practices to daily operations
- Participates in departmental Performance Improvement activities
- Part of a system encompassing six full-service hospitals, a dedicated pediatric hospital with a pediatric emergency unit, a cancer care network, fitness and rehabilitation centers, imaging centers, and the Baptist School of Health Professions
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Minimum one year of cooking experience in a restaurant or healthcare food service environment
- Required certification: ANSI Accredited Texas Food Handler certification, ANSI Accredited Food Manager course completion, or Certified Food Manager credential from the San Antonio Metropolitan Health District
- Ability to assess food quality through color perception and taste
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for coordination with coworkers and supervisors
