Practice Highlights

  • Full-scope patient access duties spanning scheduling, pre-admission, admission, registration, reception, and discharge functions
  • Required proficiency in at least two Patient Access service areas, including the Emergency Department
  • Completes full patient registration at date of service using scheduling and registration systems; scans and files Protected Health Information
  • Secures and explains all required legal and consent forms: Advance Directives, Conditions of Service, Consent for Treatment, Important Message from Medicare, and EMTALA documentation
  • Performs insurance verification, benefits and eligibility checks, and obtains prior authorizations for both scheduled and unscheduled hospital services
  • Conducts medical necessity checks and verifications in accordance with CMS requirements; provides inpatient visit notification to payors
  • Executes compliant point-of-service, pre-service, and post-service patient liability collections using proper negotiation techniques; performs hospital cash reconciliation and secured payment entry
  • Assists with scheduling diagnostic procedures and coordinating post-discharge care as needed
  • Interprets physician orders, medical terminology, and insurance cards in accordance with established standards of care
  • Works collaboratively with internal clinical teams and external clients to ensure accuracy, productivity, and a high-quality patient experience
  • Schedule flexibility required based on departmental and system demands
  • Work environment includes patient care locations with potential exposure to high-acuity patient conditions and variable patient volumes

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required; some college coursework preferred
  • 0–1 year of customer service experience; healthcare administrative experience in a medical facility, health insurance, or related setting preferred
  • Minimum typing speed of 35 words per minute
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of PC, CRT terminals, and printers
  • Ability to interpret physician orders, medical terminology, and insurance documentation
  • Understanding of third-party payor requirements and healthcare compliance standards preferred
  • Ability to work across at least two Patient Access service areas, including the Emergency Department
  • Must meet all required pre-employment vaccination and screening requirements, which may include COVID-19 and influenza vaccinations
