Practice Highlights

  • Full-cycle patient access responsibilities: scheduling, pre-admission, admission, registration, reception, and discharge
  • Cross-trained and deployed in at least two Patient Access service areas, including the Emergency Department
  • Completes comprehensive patient registration at date of service, including securing all required legal and consent forms (Advance Directives, Conditions of Service, Consent for Treatment, Important Message from Medicare, EMTALA)
  • Performs insurance verification, benefits and eligibility checks, and obtains prior authorizations for both scheduled and unscheduled hospital services
  • Conducts medical necessity checks and verifications in accordance with CMS requirements; secures inpatient visit notifications to payors
  • Manages patient financial liability education and employs compliant collection techniques before, during, and after date of service
  • Performs hospital cash reconciliation and secured payment entry per financial and cash control policies
  • Assists with scheduling diagnostic procedures and coordinating post-discharge care as needed
  • Scans and manages Protected Health Information; creates and maintains patient information packets and folders for upcoming services
  • Works within a hospital administration environment with potential exposure to high patient volumes and acute care settings

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required; some college coursework preferred
  • 0–1 year of customer service experience; 0–1 year of administrative experience in a medical facility, health insurance, or related field preferred
  • Minimum typing speed of 35 words per minute
  • Demonstrated proficiency with PC, CRT, and printer operations
  • Ability to interpret physician orders, medical terminology, and insurance cards accurately
  • Working knowledge of third-party payor requirements and healthcare compliance standards preferred
  • Ability to perform essential duties across at least two Patient Access service areas, including the Emergency Department
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to build collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Proficient use of negotiation techniques for professional patient/guarantor collections
  • Physical requirements include extended computer terminal use, occasional lifting up to 25 lbs, prolonged standing and walking, and occasional wheelchair assistance for patients
