Practice Highlights

  • Full-scope patient access duties spanning scheduling, pre-admission, admission, registration, reception, and discharge functions
  • Required proficiency in at least two Patient Access service areas, including the Emergency Department
  • Performs complete patient registration at date of service, including securing legal and consent forms: Advance Directives, Conditions of Service, Consent for Treatment, Important Message from Medicare, and EMTALA documentation
  • Conducts insurance verification, benefits and eligibility checks, and medical necessity verification in accordance with CMS requirements
  • Obtains prior authorizations for both scheduled and unscheduled hospital services; provides inpatient visit notification to payors
  • Executes compliant point-of-service, pre-service, and post-service patient liability collections using proper negotiation techniques
  • Performs hospital cash reconciliation and secured payment entry in adherence to financial and cash control policies
  • Assists with scheduling diagnostic procedures and coordinating post-discharge care as needed
  • Scans and manages Protected Health Information; creates and maintains patient information packets and folders for upcoming services
  • Collaborates with physician offices, clinical staff, and external clients to resolve patient and registration issues
  • Works within a hospital administration environment with potential exposure to high patient volumes and acute patient care settings
  • Schedule flexibility required based on departmental and system demands

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required; some college coursework preferred
  • 0–1 year of customer service experience; 0–1 year of administrative experience in a medical facility, health insurance, or related field preferred
  • Minimum typing speed of 35 words per minute
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of PC, CRT terminal, and printer operation
  • Ability to interpret physician orders, medical terminology, and insurance cards accurately
  • Understanding of third-party payor requirements and healthcare compliance standards preferred
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to work effectively in a high-volume, fast-paced environment
  • Ability to occasionally lift or carry items up to 25 lbs. and assist patients with mobility using a wheelchair
