Practice Highlights

- Cross-functional role covering at least two Patient Access service areas, including the Emergency Department
- Full patient registration at date of service: demographic capture, legal form execution (Advance Directives, Conditions of Service, Consent for Treatment, Important Message from Medicare, EMTALA), and PHI scanning
- Insurance verification, benefits and eligibility confirmation, and authorization procurement for both scheduled and unscheduled hospital services
- Medical necessity checks and verification in accordance with Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) standards
- Point-of-service and post-service patient liability collection using compliant negotiation techniques; hospital cash reconciliation and secured payment entry
- Inpatient visit notification to payors and coordination of post-discharge care as needed
- Scheduling support for diagnostic procedures: data entry in scheduling system, patient appointment instruction, and related coordination tasks
- Collaborative relationship management with internal clinical teams and external clients to drive communication accuracy and productivity
- Interpretation of physician orders, medical terminology, and insurance documentation in accordance with established standards of care
- Work environment includes patient care locations with potential exposure to high-acuity and high-volume patient conditions
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required; some college coursework preferred
- 0–1 year of customer service experience; 0–1 year of administrative experience in a medical facility, health insurance, or related field preferred
- Minimum typing speed of 35 words per minute
- Demonstrated proficiency with PC, CRT terminal, and printer operation
- Working knowledge of hospital environment functions and departmental relationships preferred
- Familiarity with third-party payor requirements and healthcare compliance standards preferred
- Ability to interpret physician orders, medical terminology, and insurance cards accurately
- Proficient oral and written communication skills; ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
- Must be able to perform essential duties across at least two Patient Access service areas, including the Emergency Department
