Practice Highlights
- Full-time, day-shift schedule
- Operates within Baptist Health System — a network of six full-service hospitals, a dedicated children's hospital with pediatric emergency unit, a comprehensive cancer care network, fitness and rehabilitation centers, imaging centers, and ambulatory services
- Direct patient contact: calls patients to assist with and receive menu selections; interviews patients and caregivers to obtain food preferences
- Processes new diet orders and modifications in accordance with standards established by the Registered Dietitian; generates and edits patient tray tickets and enters data into the dietary computer system
- Reviews diet orders and menus from hospital units; prepares production sheets for kitchen staff
- Serves as a communication link between nursing units and dietary leadership — relays meal changes, complaints, and discharge information to supervisors and Registered Dietitians
- Works tray line and tray accuracy checks to ensure timely and accurate patient meal delivery
- Participates in Performance Improvement activities and maintains a safe work environment
- Addresses patient population-specific nutritional needs across the acute care setting
Qualifications
- Minimum education: High school diploma or equivalent; preferred — Associate's Degree in Dietetic Technology or at least two years of college coursework in Nutrition and Dietetics
- Minimum experience: 1–2 years in a healthcare food service setting; preferred — 3–5 years in healthcare food service with demonstrated computer proficiency
- Required certification: ANSI Accredited Texas Food Handler certification, ANSI Accredited Food Manager course, or Certified Food Manager credential from the San Antonio Metropolitan Health District
- Preferred certification: Registered Dietetic Technician (DTR) credential through the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the American Dietetic Association
- Competency completion required within the designated introductory period for all established position competencies
