Doctors Medical Center of Modesto is recruiting a part-time, rotating-shift RN Shift Manager for its Cardiac Stepdown / Progressive Care Unit (PCU) in Modesto, California.   • Cardiac Stepdown / PCU setting with telemetry monitoring — shift manager is expected to respond to life-threatening dysrhythmias and take appropriate clinical action

  • Multidisciplinary team environment; shift manager initiates and coordinates goal-oriented care plans in collaboration with physicians, ancillary staff, and the broader healthcare team
  • Part-time, rotating-shift schedule (days and nights); shift turnover windows at 0645–0715 and 1845–1915 hours
  • Shift manager oversees staffing assignments with consideration of patient acuity, age-specific needs (adult 18–70 years and geriatric 71+ years), staff skill mix, and individual care plans
  • Responsibilities include daily maintenance of pharmacy refrigerator logs, crash cart logs, staffing logs, and restraint logs; narcotic counts and SureMed verifications per hospital policy at each shift change
  • PCSS documentation requirements: shift notes, daily assignments, adverse events, and acuity levels completed by 0400 and 1600 hours
  • Leader rounding on unit patients to assess satisfaction, provide service recovery, and deliver real-time feedback to nursing staff
  • Monitors complex pharmacotherapeutics and laboratory values; reports abnormal findings to the treating physician
  • Supports performance management by assisting the Nurse Director with employee evaluations, goal-setting, and process improvement initiatives
  • Participates in committee work, special projects, and teaching presentations as part of the leadership role

Qualifications

  • Active California RN license required
  • BSN preferred
  • BLS certification required
  • ACLS certification required
  • PALS certification required
  • Three to five years of acute care nursing experience, or equivalent; demonstrated RN skills appropriate to a cardiac stepdown / PCU environment
  • Prior managerial or charge-nurse experience and demonstrated communication skills preferred
  • Proof of vaccination status or approved religious/medical exemption required prior to start date per applicable federal, state, and/or local law; unvaccinated employees with approved exemptions are subject to regular testing
