Practice Highlights

  • Leads shift-level Patient Access operations, driving team accountability and departmental efficiency in a fast-paced hospital setting
  • Performs and oversees full patient registration at date of service, including execution of all required legal and compliance forms: Advance Directives, Conditions of Service, Consent for Treatment, Important Message from Medicare, and EMTALA documentation
  • Conducts thorough analysis of Admission, Discharge, and Transfer (ADT) data and Revenue Cycle Reports; completes departmental operational reporting tied to team performance metrics
  • Manages the full spectrum of insurance verification, benefits and eligibility checks, medical necessity verification per CMS standards, authorization procurement for both scheduled and unscheduled services, and inpatient visit notification to payors
  • Provides comprehensive patient financial counseling, education, and referrals; executes compliant patient liability collection before, during, and after date of service
  • Oversees hospital cash reconciliation and secured payment entry in strict adherence to financial and cash control policies
  • Coordinates with clinical departments on scheduling modifications; may schedule diagnostic and/or surgical procedures and conduct physician office and patient interviews
  • Collaborates directly with department leaders on process improvement and operational excellence initiatives
  • Cross-trained and expected to function across all Patient Access service areas
  • Works in patient care locations with potential exposure to high-acuity and life-threatening patient conditions
  • Must be available for on-call scheduling support as departmental or system demands require

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required; 2–4 year college degree in Business, Accounting, Medical Administration, or a related field preferred
  • 2–4 years of experience in a medical facility, health insurance, or closely related environment required
  • 3–5 years of Patient Access experience strongly preferred
  • 1–2 years in a supervisory or lead role preferred
  • Advanced knowledge of third-party payor requirements and healthcare compliance standards preferred
  • Demonstrated high performance in patient liability collection with strong productivity metrics
  • Minimum typing speed of 35 words per minute; high-level proficiency with hospital software, programs, and PC-based systems required
  • Advanced customer service skills with the ability to manage extreme patient volumes and navigate challenging patient interactions professionally
  • Proficiency in negotiation techniques for patient and guarantor liability collection
  • Vaccination and health screening requirements must be met prior to start, including COVID-19 and influenza vaccinations as applicable and permitted by law
