The Hospitals of Providence – East Campus in El Paso, Texas is recruiting a full-time Charge Nurse (RN) for its Telemetry unit on a Weekender schedule, nights shift. This is a dual-role position combining direct bedside clinical care with unit-level leadership — overseeing patient flow, mentoring staff, and coordinating with physicians and administrators to drive safe, high-quality outcomes. Practice Highlights

  • Full-time, nights position on a Weekender schedule within the Telemetry unit
  • Dual-role responsibility: direct patient care plus unit-level charge nurse leadership each shift
  • Oversees patient admissions, transfers, and discharges to ensure smooth, efficient patient throughput
  • Delegates assignments to support staff in accordance with their training level and patient acuity
  • Mentors and trains new staff; provides ongoing guidance and support to all unit personnel
  • Monitors medical charts, administers medications safely and on schedule per hospital policy, and maintains accurate documentation
  • Liaises directly with physicians and hospital administrators; communicates protocol changes to nursing staff
  • Ensures unit compliance with health and safety regulations, infection control standards, risk management, and quality improvement protocols
  • Carries HICS (Hospital Incident Command System) responsibilities during emergencies and disaster activations
  • Reports to the appropriate clinical leader with CNO oversight; accountable for staff competency and resource management
  • Part of a five-hospital system serving El Paso and the surrounding region, including a dedicated children's hospital

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (required); Bachelor's or Master's degree in nursing preferred
  • Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
  • Current, active RN licensure in the state of Texas (or eligibility to obtain)
  • AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
  • AHA Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and/or PALS and/or NRP as applicable per corporate policy for the Telemetry unit
  • Demonstrated ability to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate direct patient care across a shift and at the unit level
