Practice Highlights

- Full patient registration at date of service, including demographic capture, insurance verification, and legal form execution (Advance Directives, Conditions of Service, Consent for Treatment, Important Message from Medicare, EMTALA)
- Pre-admission and admission functions, reception, and patient discharge coordination including post-discharge care scheduling
- Insurance eligibility and benefits verification; obtains prior authorizations for both scheduled and unscheduled hospital services; secures inpatient visit notifications to payors
- Medical necessity checks and verification in accordance with CMS requirements
- Point-of-service, pre-service, and post-service patient liability collections using compliant negotiation techniques; hospital cash reconciliation and secured payment entry
- Scanning and filing of Protected Health Information; creation of patient information packets for upcoming services
- Diagnostic procedure scheduling support — data entry, appointment instruction delivery, and coordination tasks
- Must be cross-trained and proficient in at least two Patient Access service areas, including the Emergency Department
- Works within a hospital administration environment with potential exposure to high patient volumes and acute care settings
- Interprets physician orders, medical terminology, and insurance cards in accordance with established standards of care
- Builds collaborative relationships with internal clinical teams and external clients (physician offices, payors) to drive communication accuracy and productivity
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required; some college coursework preferred
- 0–1 year of customer service experience; 0–1 year of administrative experience in a medical facility, health insurance, or related setting preferred
- Minimum typing speed of 35 words per minute
- Demonstrated working knowledge of PC, CRT terminal, and printer operation
- Familiarity with hospital department functions and inter-departmental relationships preferred
- Understanding of Third Party Payor requirements and healthcare compliance standards preferred
- Ability to interpret physician orders and medical terminology; comfort working in high-volume, fast-paced patient care environments
- Must be available to adjust hours and days based on departmental and system demands
