Practice Highlights

  • Day-shift schedule at Hi-Desert Medical Center, Joshua Tree, CA; availability required based on departmental and system demands
  • Senior-level role responsible for leading shift Patient Access Operations across a minimum of three Patient Access service areas, including the Emergency Department
  • Full-cycle patient registration duties: pre-admission, admission, reception, and discharge functions at date of service
  • Performs thorough analysis of Admission Discharge Transfer (ADT) data and Revenue Cycle Reports to support operational decision-making
  • Manages insurance verification, benefits and eligibility checks, authorization procurement for both scheduled and unscheduled hospital services, and inpatient visit notification to payors
  • Conducts medical necessity checks and verification in accordance with Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) standards
  • Executes full patient financial counseling, liability collection escalations, and hospital cash reconciliation in compliance with financial and cash control policies
  • Secures and explains all required legal and regulatory patient forms: Advance Directives, Conditions of Service, Consent for Treatment, Important Message from Medicare, and EMTALA documentation
  • May assist with scheduling diagnostic or surgical procedures and conducting physician office and patient interviews
  • Collaborates directly with department leaders on process improvement and operational excellence initiatives
  • Works in a hospital administration environment with potential exposure to high patient volumes and acute patient care settings

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required; some college coursework preferred
  • 2–4 years of experience in a medical facility, health insurance, or related healthcare environment required
  • 2+ years of direct Patient Access experience preferred
  • Demonstrated proficiency with PC-based software systems and hospital information platforms
  • Minimum typing speed of 35 words per minute
  • Advanced understanding of third-party payor requirements and compliance standards preferred
  • Demonstrated high achievement in patient liability collection, including use of compliant negotiation techniques
  • Ability to perform essential job duties across at least three Patient Access service areas, including the ED
  • Candidates must obtain and provide confirmation of all required vaccinations and screenings prior to start of employment, including COVID-19 and influenza vaccinations, as applicable and permitted by law
