Practice Highlights

  • Outpatient radiology imaging center environment — focused, specialty-specific patient population with predictable daily workflow
  • Full patient registration at date of service: demographic collection, legal form execution (Advance Directives, Conditions of Service, Consent for Treatment, Important Message from Medicare, EMTALA), and PHI scanning
  • Insurance verification, benefits confirmation, coverage and eligibility checks, and prior authorization for both scheduled and unscheduled imaging services
  • Medical necessity verification in accordance with Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) guidelines
  • Patient financial liability education and compliant point-of-service, pre-service, and post-service collections using proper negotiation techniques
  • Hospital cash reconciliation and secured payment entry in adherence to financial and cash control policies
  • Scheduling support for diagnostic imaging procedures: data entry into scheduling system, patient appointment instructions, and coordination of post-discharge care as needed
  • Inpatient visit notification to payors and completion of assigned registration financial clearance work list activities
  • Cross-functional role requiring proficiency in at least two Patient Access service areas, including the Emergency Department
  • Collaborative environment requiring active relationship-building with internal clinical staff and external physician offices and payer contacts

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required; some college coursework preferred
  • 0–1 year of customer service experience; 0–1 year of administrative experience in a medical facility, health insurance, or related healthcare setting preferred
  • Minimum typing speed of 35 words per minute; demonstrated working knowledge of PC, CRT terminal, and printer
  • Ability to interpret physician orders, medical terminology, and insurance cards accurately
  • Working knowledge of third-party payer requirements and healthcare compliance standards preferred
  • Ability to perform essential duties across at least two Patient Access service areas, including the Emergency Department
  • Physical ability to sit at a computer terminal for extended periods, stand and walk frequently, lift or carry items up to 25 lbs occasionally, and assist patients with mobility using a wheelchair as needed
  • Availability to adjust hours and days based on departmental and system demands as needed
