Practice Highlights
- Dedicated cardiovascular ICU at a specialty heart and vascular hospital in operation since 1998 — not a general ICU with a cardiac component
- Patient population: post-operative open heart surgery, advanced vascular surgery (aneurysm repairs, chimney procedures, bypasses, aortic dissections), structural heart interventions, acute coronary syndromes (ACS), cardiogenic shock, decompensated heart failure, and life-threatening arrhythmias
- Hands-on experience with ECMO in all configurations: VA, VV, and VAV
- Impella management across the full platform: CP, 5.5, and RP
- Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP) management
- Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT)
- EKOS catheter-directed thrombolysis therapy
- Targeted Temperature Management (TTM) protocols
- Bedside procedural support including PEG tube and tracheostomy placement
- Multidisciplinary team model: cardiovascular surgeons, interventional cardiologists, respiratory therapists, and APPs working in close collaboration with bedside nursing
- Evidence-based practice environment with access to advanced diagnostic and interventional technology
Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse license in the State of Arizona (or eligibility to obtain)
- Minimum: 2–3 years of experience as an RN in a telemetry, step-down, or progressive care unit (PCU)
- Preferred: 1–2 years of direct RN experience in an ICU or CVICU setting
- Nursing degree from an accredited nursing school required; BSN preferred
- Current CPR certification required
- ACLS required upon completion of orientation for CVICU placement
