Practice Highlights

- Full patient registration at date of service: demographic collection, legal form execution (Advance Directives, Conditions of Service, Consent for Treatment, Important Message from Medicare, EMTALA), and PHI scanning
- Insurance verification, benefits and eligibility confirmation, and authorization procurement for both scheduled and unscheduled hospital services
- Medical necessity checks and verification in accordance with Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services standards
- Patient liability education and compliant point-of-service, pre-service, and post-service collections; hospital cash reconciliation and secured payment entry
- Inpatient visit notification to payors and coordination of post-discharge care as needed
- Scheduling support for diagnostic procedures, including data entry, appointment instruction, and follow-up tasks
- Required to perform duties competently across at least two Patient Access service areas, including the Emergency Department
- Hospital administration environment with potential exposure to high patient volumes and acute care settings
- Collaborative role interfacing with physician offices, clinical staff, and external payer contacts
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required; some college coursework preferred
- Zero to one year of customer service experience; zero to one year of administrative experience in a medical facility, health insurance, or related field preferred
- Minimum typing speed of 35 words per minute
- Demonstrated proficiency with PC, CRT terminal, and printer operation
- Ability to interpret physician orders, medical terminology, and insurance cards accurately
- Understanding of third-party payer requirements and healthcare compliance standards preferred
- Knowledge of hospital departmental functions and inter-departmental relationships preferred
- Proficiency with compliant patient liability negotiation and collection techniques
- Ability to sit at a computer terminal for extended periods; occasional lifting up to 25 lbs; occasional wheelchair assistance for patients with mobility needs
- Confirmation of all required vaccinations and screenings (including influenza and any future required vaccines) prior to start of employment, as applicable and permitted by law
