Practice Highlights
- Performs full patient registration at date of service, including demographic data collection, insurance verification, and creation of patient information packets and folders for upcoming services
- Greets and processes patients in accordance with established Standards of Care, delivering customer-service-focused interactions across high-volume patient access points
- Secures and explains all required legal and consent documentation: Advance Directives, Conditions of Service, Consent for Treatment, Important Message from Medicare, and EMTALA forms
- Conducts insurance eligibility and benefits verification, obtains prior authorizations for both scheduled and unscheduled hospital services, and provides inpatient visit notification to payors
- Performs medical necessity checks and verification in accordance with Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) guidelines
- Executes compliant patient liability collection before, during, and after the date of service; manages hospital cash reconciliation and secured payment entry per financial control policies
- Assists with scheduling diagnostic procedures, including data entry into the scheduling system and providing patients with appointment instructions
- Coordinates post-discharge care scheduling as needed
- Must be cross-trained and proficient in at least two Patient Access service areas, including the Emergency Department
- Scans and manages Protected Health Information (PHI) in compliance with applicable privacy standards
- Interprets physician orders, medical terminology, and insurance cards accurately within a fast-paced hospital environment
- Builds collaborative relationships with internal departments and external clients to support communication, productivity, and accuracy
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required; some college coursework preferred
- 0–1 year of customer service experience; 0–1 year of administrative experience in a medical facility, health insurance, or related setting preferred
- Minimum typing speed of 35 words per minute
- Demonstrated working knowledge of PC, CRT terminal, and printer operation
- Familiarity with hospital department functions and inter-departmental relationships preferred
- Understanding of third-party payor requirements and healthcare compliance standards preferred
- Ability to interpret physician orders, medical terminology, and insurance documentation
- Ability to work in at least two Patient Access service areas, including the Emergency Department
- Must meet vaccination and pre-employment screening requirements as required by law and employer policy
