Practice Highlights

  • Bedside screening of self-pay patients for eligibility across federal, state, county, and non-governmental financial assistance programs
  • Identification and routing of all potential payor sources including auto insurance, Workers' Compensation, commercial insurance, private insurance, and third-party liability (TPL)
  • Completion and management of Confidential Financial Statement forms; direct assistance to patients throughout the benefits application process
  • Conducts one-on-one interviews with patients and family members to gather financial and coverage information
  • Performs financial clearance functions including collections activity; prepares accounts for Financial Assistance review and cancels uncooperative, ineligible accounts per protocol
  • Follows up on EES-assigned accounts to confirm government program applications are progressing; builds ongoing working relationships with patients to accelerate eligibility determinations
  • Conducts field visits to patient homes for skip tracing and document assistance
  • Communicates case screening determinations and outcomes — both verbally and in writing — to hospital case management, social services, and admissions staff
  • Maintains complete, accurate documentation of all account activity throughout the in-house stay and the full Patient Accounting cycle
  • Work environment spans both hospital and office settings, with direct patient and staff contact across a broad campus including the Emergency Department
  • Some travel required, including field visits to patient residences

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum 2 years of work experience in social services, hospital admitting, or a directly related field
  • Working familiarity with federal, state, and county program rules and regulations governing patient financial assistance
  • Proficiency in PC systems including Windows, Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to conduct patient interviews and document outcomes clearly
  • Detail-oriented with demonstrated ability to manage multiple accounts, facilities, supervisors, and hospital platforms simultaneously
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize a high-volume task load efficiently
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred
  • Must be able to navigate a full hospital campus environment, including the Emergency Department, and visit patients at bedside; travel to patient homes required
  • Candidates must be able to provide confirmation of all required vaccinations and screenings prior to start of employment, including COVID-19 and influenza vaccinations as applicable
