Practice Highlights
- Primary shift: Days, 7AM–7PM (12-hour shifts); must be available for evening and night coverage as needed based on departmental demand
- Deployed across at least two Patient Access service areas, with Emergency Department as a required coverage zone
- Full patient registration at date of service: demographic capture, legal form execution (Advance Directives, Conditions of Service, Consent for Treatment, Important Message from Medicare, EMTALA), and PHI scanning
- Insurance verification, benefits and eligibility confirmation, medical necessity checks per CMS guidelines, and prior authorization for both scheduled and unscheduled hospital services
- Patient liability education and compliant point-of-service collections, including cash reconciliation and secured payment entry per financial control policies
- Inpatient visit notification to payors and coordination of post-discharge care as needed
- Scheduling support for diagnostic procedures: data entry, patient appointment instructions, and follow-up tasks
- High-volume, fast-paced ED environment with exposure to the full spectrum of acute patient acuity; occasional management of uncooperative patients and extreme volume surges
- Collaborative work model requiring active relationship-building with internal clinical teams and external payer/physician office contacts
- Requires accurate interpretation of physician orders, medical terminology, and insurance documentation
Qualifications
- Spanish bilingual fluency required (spoken and written)
- High School Diploma or GED required; some college coursework preferred
- 0–1 year of customer service experience; 0–1 year of administrative experience in a medical facility, health insurance, or related setting preferred
- Minimum typing speed of 35 words per minute
- Demonstrated proficiency with PC, CRT terminal, and printer
- Working knowledge of third-party payer requirements and healthcare compliance standards preferred
- Ability to interpret physician orders, medical terminology, and insurance cards
- Must be able to sit at a computer terminal for extended periods, stand and walk frequently, lift or carry items up to 25 lbs occasionally, and assist patients with wheelchair mobility as needed
- Must be available to work variable hours and days based on departmental and system demands
- Must meet all required pre-employment vaccination and health screening requirements, including COVID-19 and influenza vaccinations as applicable
