A regional hospital network in Birmingham, Alabama is seeking an experienced Patient Access Supervisor to lead front-end revenue cycle operations across multiple registration touchpoints — including Admitting, Centralized Scheduling, the Emergency Department, and on- and off-site clinics. Practice Highlights

  • Supervisory scope covers all Patient Access registration areas: Admitting, Centralized Scheduling, Emergency Department, and on- and off-site clinic locations
  • Direct reports include Patient Access Representatives at levels PA I through PA IV
  • Full supervisory authority: interviewing, hiring, training, performance appraisal, disciplinary action, complaint resolution, and work direction
  • Daily mentoring and training responsibilities for both new hires and tenured Patient Access staff
  • Accountable for monitoring daily operational activity and producing performance and metric reports, including financial clearance reports
  • Participates in short- and long-range planning for all registration process areas
  • Enforces and contributes to the development of departmental policies and procedures in alignment with hospital and corporate guidelines
  • Manages escalated patient access and customer service issues as they arise
  • Performs all Patient Access functions hands-on as operational needs require
  • Hospital work environment; must be available for variable hours and on-call coverage based on system demands

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; 2- or 4-year college degree in Business, Accounting, Medical Administration, or a related field strongly preferred
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in a medical facility, health insurance, or closely related healthcare environment
  • 5 or more years of Patient Access experience preferred
  • 2 or more years in a supervisory or lead role preferred
  • Thorough knowledge of healthcare information systems and computer applications in a clinical/administrative setting
  • Clear working understanding of Revenue Cycle Management principles and applicable regulatory agency requirements
  • Demonstrated leadership ability with strong interpersonal, organizational, and written/oral communication skills
