Practice Highlights

  • Performs full patient registration at date of service across multiple Patient Access service areas, with required competency in at least two areas including the Emergency Department
  • Completes pre-admission and admission workflows, reception, scheduling, and discharge functions
  • Secures and explains all required legal and compliance forms: Advance Directives, Conditions of Service, Consent for Treatment, Important Message from Medicare, and EMTALA documentation
  • Conducts insurance verification, benefits and eligibility checks, and obtains authorizations for both scheduled and unscheduled hospital services; provides inpatient visit notification to payors
  • Performs medical necessity checks and verification in accordance with Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) requirements
  • Collects patient financial liabilities before, during, and after date of service using compliant negotiation techniques; performs hospital cash reconciliation and secured payment entry
  • Scans and manages Protected Health Information (PHI); creates and files patient information packets for upcoming services
  • Assists with scheduling diagnostic procedures and coordinating post-discharge care as needed
  • Interprets physician orders, medical terminology, and insurance cards in a fast-paced hospital environment
  • Schedule flexibility required — hours and days based on departmental and system demands

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required; some college coursework preferred
  • 0–1 year of customer service experience; 0–1 year of administrative experience in a medical facility, health insurance, or related field preferred
  • Minimum typing speed of 35 words per minute
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of PC, CRT terminal, and printer operation
  • Ability to perform essential duties in at least two Patient Access service areas, including the Emergency Department
  • Understanding of third-party payor requirements and compliance standards preferred
  • Knowledge of hospital environment functions and interdepartmental relationships preferred
  • Must meet all required pre-employment vaccination and screening requirements, which may include COVID-19 and influenza vaccinations
