Practice Highlights
- Thursday–Sunday, 7 p.m.–7 a.m. schedule — four consecutive 12-hour overnight shifts per week
- Cross-trained to perform duties in at least two Patient Access service areas, including the Emergency Department
- Full patient registration at date of service: demographic capture, legal form execution (Advance Directives, Conditions of Service, Consent for Treatment, Important Message from Medicare, EMTALA), and PHI scanning
- Insurance verification, benefits and eligibility confirmation, medical necessity checks per CMS guidelines, and prior authorization for both scheduled and unscheduled hospital services
- Point-of-service and post-service patient liability collections using compliant negotiation techniques; hospital cash reconciliation and secured payment entry
- Inpatient visit notification to payors and coordination of post-discharge care as needed
- Scheduling support for diagnostic procedures: data entry in scheduling system, patient appointment instructions
- Collaborative interface with physician offices, clinical staff, and external payer contacts to resolve registration and authorization issues
- High-acuity, variable patient volume environment — including potential exposure to life-threatening patient conditions in care areas
- Part of a revenue cycle operation with 30 years of healthcare industry expertise supporting financial and clinical performance across a large regional hospital system
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required; some college coursework preferred
- 0–1 year of customer service experience required; 0–1 year of administrative experience in a medical facility, health insurance, or related setting preferred
- Minimum typing speed of 35 words per minute
- Demonstrated proficiency with PC, CRT terminal, and printer
- Ability to interpret physician orders, medical terminology, and insurance cards accurately
- Working knowledge of third-party payer requirements and healthcare compliance standards preferred
- Must be available to work hours and days as needed based on departmental and system demands beyond the core schedule
- Ability to sit at a computer terminal for extended periods; occasional lifting up to 25 lbs.; occasional wheelchair assistance for patients with mobility needs
