Kennedy Memorial Hospital in Indio, California is recruiting a full-time Emergency Department Clinical Coordinator to lead night-shift operations in a high-acuity ED that is part of the Desert Care Network — a three-hospital system serving the Coachella Valley and Morongo Basin regions of Southern California. This is a hands-on clinical leadership role that combines direct patient care coordination with staff supervision, throughput management, and process improvement, making it an ideal next step for an experienced ED RN ready to step into a formal leadership position. Practice Highlights
- Night shift position: 1900–0730, six shifts per two-week pay period; some weekends required
- Oversees end-to-end ED patient throughput — lab result processing, admissions, patient transport, floor transfers, and ancillary communication
- Serves as the primary liaison between nurses, physicians, patients, and family members during the shift, resolving complaints and making real-time operational decisions
- Acts as clinical resource and charge-level authority during crisis and emergency situations, directing staff through changing workload demands
- Participates in human resources functions including staff evaluation, counseling, hiring interviews, and new employee orientation
- Manages shift-level staffing using an individual patient classification system to predict nursing care requirements and track trends in care delivery and staff mix
- Supports risk management, safety, infection control, and YTD labor-hour benchmark compliance
- Contributes to policy and procedure review (minimum every three years), departmental strategic planning, and Process Improvement (PI) integration into daily operations
- Assists the Director in monitoring supply costs against flexed quarterly budget targets and identifying labor and supply efficiency savings
- Part of Desert Care Network — a regional system with Desert Regional Medical Center (Palm Springs), JFK Memorial Hospital (Indio), and Hi-Desert Medical Center (Joshua Tree)
Qualifications
- Active California RN license required
- Current American Heart Association BLS certification (must remain current at all times)
- Current American Heart Association ACLS certification (must remain current at all times)
- Current PALS certification required
- Mobile Intensive Care Nurse (MICN) certification required within 6–9 months of hire
- AB-508 Nonviolent Crisis Intervention certification required within 6 months of hire
- ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course), TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course), and CEN (Certified Emergency Nurse) preferred
- Demonstrated expertise in emergency and trauma nursing, with the clinical depth to serve as a resource for ED staff
