Practice Highlights

  • Evening shift: 3:00 PM – 11:30 PM; availability for additional hours and days based on departmental volume demands is required
  • Primary assignment in the Emergency Department with cross-trained capability required in at least two Patient Access service areas
  • Full patient registration at point of service: demographic capture, insurance verification, benefits and eligibility confirmation, and authorization procurement for both scheduled and unscheduled services
  • Secures and explains all required legal and compliance forms: Advance Directives, Conditions of Service, Consent for Treatment, Important Message from Medicare, and EMTALA documentation
  • Performs medical necessity checks and verification in accordance with CMS standards; secures inpatient visit notification to payors
  • Conducts compliant patient liability collections before, during, and after date of service; performs hospital cash reconciliation and secured payment entry per financial control policies
  • Scans and manages Protected Health Information (PHI); creates and files patient information packets for upcoming services
  • Assists with scheduling diagnostic procedures and coordinating post-discharge care as needed
  • Interprets physician orders, medical terminology, and insurance cards in accordance with established standards of care
  • High-acuity environment with potential exposure to life-threatening patient conditions; must manage extreme patient volumes and complex patient interactions professionally

Qualifications

  • Spanish/English bilingualism required
  • High School Diploma or GED required; some college coursework preferred
  • 0–1 year of customer service experience; 0–1 year of administrative experience in a medical facility, health insurance, or related field preferred
  • Minimum typing speed of 35 words per minute
  • Demonstrated proficiency with PC, CRT terminal, and printer operation
  • Working knowledge of Third Party Payor requirements and healthcare compliance standards preferred
  • Ability to interpret physician orders, medical terminology, and insurance documentation
  • Must be cross-trained and able to perform essential duties in at least two Patient Access service areas, including the Emergency Department
  • Physical requirements include extended periods of sitting at a computer terminal, frequent standing and walking, occasional lifting up to 25 lbs, and occasional wheelchair assistance for patients with mobility needs
